Newlin Baby Cake - November 2009

Henry works for a company in Utah, and the owners daughter had a baby in October. Henry was talking tho her husband (who also works for the sme company) and asked what they needed for the baby. He said jokingly, that he wanted one of my cakes. Well, last week Henry went to Utah to go hunting so I made them a baby cake. Here is the end result. I think it turned out pretty good. It was my first try on the imprint mat for fondant and I was having a hard time! It took half a dozen tries. The painting was fun though.

Eivy Mathews' Birthday Cake - June 2009

A friend of mine from church asked if I would make her daughter's birthday cake. Eivy loves Spot Conlin from the movie "Newsies" so she wanted a cake with that in mind. I found a picture of Spot on the internet and had it made into an edible image. I covered the cake in fondant and then sprayed it black. After I put the image on the cake I used frosting to pipe the red suspenders (a favorite feature of hers). This is the end result.

Jesse Wedding Cake - June 2009

I had my first paying cake job! A sister in our ward had a brother that was getting married and for her wedding gift she bought their wedding cake, and I made it. They wanted it covered in white fondant, with dots that looked like pearls and ribbon at the bottom of each tier. I sprayed the fondant and dots with a pearl sheen so it sparkled in the light. It was really simple and pretty. It was 4 layers which made stacking it tricky!

I made a cake that had an element from each cover of the Twilight series books. The apple (it was a real apple), the ruffled tulip petals (I made them out of gum paste), the red ribbon and torn red ribbon (made out of fondant), and the chess board and chess pieces (made out of fondant). The cake was a red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream frosting and then covered in white fondant.

Relief Society Birthday Cake - March 2009

I was asked to make the birthday cake for the Relief Society Birthday celebration again. I was just put in as 1st counselor in the the new presidency and taught what the heck. A few days before the party, Henry's sister passed away. We ended up flying out of town for the funeral that night. So I made the cake, dropped it off at the church on the way to the airport. I was told it was good. It was a two tiered cake with chocolate cake and coconut filling, and white cake with raspberry filling. The cake was covered in a royal/electric blue fondant. The writing was all in golden yellow. These are the Relief Society colors. The top tier had the year the Relief Society was formed, the bottom tier has the Relief Society motto (Charity Never Faileth) and the top number is how old the Relief Society is. All around the cake is wheat in buttercream which is all over everything having to do with Relief Society.

Kyle's Dinosaur Cake - January 2009

Kyle's birthday party was at the Golden Train Museum. We rented the red caboose and the rental included a train cake so I didn't get to make a cake for his party. However for the family party I made a stegosaurus cake. Kyle was into dinosaurs and his favorites were stegosaurus and triceratops. This cake was so cute, I had to make it. It is a half circle cake with cookie pieces for the neck, head, tail, and legs. The spikes were melting chocolate molded into circles.

Amy Haight's Wedding Cake - April 2008

A friend of ours (we are also loosely related too, long story) got married. I made her wedding cake and gave it to them as a wedding gift. She wanted a square cake with 3 tiers, and the tiers were to be stacked off. She didn't want the tiers squared or even. She also wanted the cake to be an off white color with dots (it was supposed to go with the beads on her dress and hat). Then we put real flowers on the cake. It was really nice. The bottom of each tier had a brown and green ribbon on it. The green ended up getting mostly covered with the shell border.

Once again, Dad got a chocolate birthday cake. This cake is a fanci-fill cake. The center is hollow and it is filled with whipped topping, chocolate chips, and coconut. It is soooo goood! He didn't want it decorated so I just put some edible cake sparkles on the cake in Utah colors (he is a big Ute fan, as is the rest of the family). Not much to look at, but worth eating!

Kyle's Train Cake - January 2008

Stacy's 2 to the 5th Birthday Cake - May 2007

A friend of mine was having a suprise birthday party. Her husband had me do the cake. He works for Lockheed Martin, that is important here! He figured it out that is was her 2 to the 5th birthday (looked like 25 but it was her 32nd I believe). I made 2 cakes for her. The colors of the party, and her favorite colors, were black, pink, and red.

Jared's Google Eyed Event Cakes - April 2007

A boy in our community passed away from cancer. He loved to read and couldn't wait for a library to be built in our area. He didn't live to see that so his parents put together a community event to raise money for the new library. I volunteered to make some cakes to be sold in the bake sale.

This cake has whipped frosting and is decorated with purple drop flowers made from royal icing.

This cake is a chocolate cake with strawberry filling and is iced with chocolate buttercream. The top has a chocolate drizzle and real strawberries.

This cake is covered with fondant. The bow and flowers are made with fondant too.

Relief Society Birthday Cake - March 2007

I was asked to make a birthday cake for the Relief Society birthday celebration. I made 2 cakes (one chocolate and one white). They were decorated the same. I did a basket weave and made a lot of flowers to decorate it. I looked like a basket with flowers. The numbers were cookies iced with color flow.

Aloha Cub Scouts! - February 2007

For the Blue and Gold Banquet our theme was Aloha Cub Scouts. I made Hawaiian girl cakes. There was one for each table (so about 8) and then I decorated them so they would look like Hula Dancers. The flowers were made of royal icing. I made a lot of extra flowers and we sprinkled them around each hula girl on the tables. I tried to make each cake different (diferent cake flavors and filling combos).
